How Online Montessori Works
A Guide For Parents
At Modern Montessori, we believe Montessori is a living philosophy that thrives beyond the classroom—our virtual environment is intentionally designed to bring its principles to life in meaningful and engaging ways.
A Prepared Digital Environment
Just like in a physical Montessori space, our online classrooms are thoughtfully prepared to support independence, choice, and meaningful work. Live Zoom sessions are designed to be interactive—not passive—with breakout rooms for small-group learning, movement opportunities, and individually recommended Montessori materials and visual tools that mirror the hands-on materials used in traditional classrooms.
Each student has access to a digital learning space with follow-up assignments, optional extensions, and resources tailored to their current learning goals.
Individualized Learning Paths
Montessori education is grounded in the idea that every child learns at their own pace. In our online model, students receive individualized lesson group placements based on assessments and teacher observations—not just age or grade level.
Our guides get to know each child’s strengths, interests, and needs, and provide targeted lessons that build confidence and stretch thinking.
Freedom Within Structure
One of the most common questions we get is: “How do children stay focused online?”
The answer is: by giving them meaningful work that is just right for them. Students are given choices within clear structures, just like in a Montessori classroom. They set goals, make plans for their work time, and develop executive functioning skills that go far beyond academics.
Building Relationships Online
Yes—real connections happen here. Our guides take the time to build community, nurture curiosity, and foster respect. Morning meetings, small group lessons, and one-on-one check-ins give students a strong sense of belonging, even from behind a screen.
And because learning is not limited to a classroom, we partner with families to bring Montessori into the home through everyday routines, projects, and conversations.
Is Online Montessori Right for Your Family?
Our approach works best for families who value child-led learning, academic depth, and flexibility. Whether you’re seeking full-time online schooling or homeschool support, our program is designed to meet children where they are—and help them grow.
If you're curious, we invite you to reach out, schedule a family meeting, or explore more about our programs.
Montessori is not something to be done only in a school building. It is a way of seeing the world, and a way of helping children connect to it.
